Vermont Castings Fireplaces
Overview:
Vermont Castings is one of the leading names in top quality cast-iron gas and wood stoves. They are the only manufacturer in North America that has both a foundry and enameling facilities under one roof. Having it all in one place ensures quality through every process right from the state of the art foundry down to the artisans who hand-carve every pattern. This level of quality can be found not only in their stoves, but also in their fireplaces, fireplace inserts, and their celebrated signature series gas BBQ grills.
Vermont Castings is one of the best known brands owned by Monessen Hearth Systems Co. (MHSC), who acquired Vermont Castings and its sister company Majestic Fireplaces in 2008. With its headquarters in Paris, Kentucky, MHSC has grown from a local manufacturer of vent free logs into a leading full line supplier of hearths and hearth products.

Gas Stoves:
Vermont Casting has a stellar selection of cast iron gas stoves for direct or natural vent, and even vent free.
The Dutchwest vented gas stove is available in a direct vent or natural vent model. This model combines the old world charm of a traditional looking wood burning stove with the modern convenience of gas. This stove has a large ceramic glass viewing area looking onto realistic flames around a split oak ceramic fiber log set with glowing ember bed. It features an all cast iron construction and can be easily converted from natural gas to liquid propane with the included kit.
There are two models available bearing the Fairfield name. This contemporary stove has a pedestal base with a small model rated at 20,000 BTUs, and a larger model rated at 30,000 BTUs. Both models will operate on natural gas or liquid propane, and can be converted from direct vent to natural vent with a special adapter. The small model features Vermont Castings patented Insta-flame ceramic burner system with a four piece log set and ceramic glass window. The larger model has a three-sided ceramic glass viewing window, exclusive Insta-flame radiant ceramic burner, and six log set. The large model also includes the Vermont Casting Comfort Control System that requires no additional fan or remote system.
Under the Vermont Castings name, there are three luxurious and classically styled models of vented stoves that epitomize quality.
The Intrepid is a small, rear vented direct vent model designed for small spaces. It features the exclusive “Firecast” ceramic burner, adjustable air shutter, real opening doors, and can easily can be converted to use liquid propane.
The Radiance offers the most flame and the most heat with up to 38,000 BTUs. This is available as both direct vent and natural vented models, and features a cast iron firebox with brick refractory pattern. It also has standing pilot ignition and working front doors.
The Stardance is Vermont Castings' most popular gas stove, and is available in direct vent with either top or rear vent, or natural vent configurations. This unit can provide up to 28,000 BTUs, and this all cast iron design comes preassembled. It also features a working door, standing pilot ignition, and can easily be converted for use with liquid propane.
The Vermont Castings Intrepid, Radiance, and Stardance gas stove models are available in classic black, or you can choose from the following enamel colors: Bordeaux, biscuit, midnight blue, chestnut brown, ebony black, and classic green. There is also a range of options like warming shelves, screens, thermostats, remote controls, and fan kits available for these stoves.
To round out Vermont Castings' range of gas stoves, they also offer the Radiance and Stardance models in vent-free models.

Wood Burning Fireplaces:
Vermont Castings offers the Sequoia EPA Wood Fireplace. This elegant, zero clearance wood fireplace is EPA Phase II certified and features a catalytic design, ceramic glass windows, and air sealed cast iron doors. The Fireplace is designed to eliminate smoke and heat loss, and has a burn time of up to 24 hours. All this combines to give a high efficiency of 73% which can heat over 2,500 square feet with virtually no heat loss.
Vermont Castings also offers three styles of wood burning fireplace inserts that allow you to convert your existing fireplace into a modern, energy efficient fireplace.
The Dutchwest Plate Steel insert is based on the same construction as their wood stoves, and is designed specifically for use in existing masonry fireplaces. This insert will heat up to 1,500 square feet with an average efficiency of 64%, and comes standard with a brick-lined firebox, blower, and faceplate. It also features a cast iron door with wooden handle, and ceramic glass windows. This insert utilizes non-catalytic technology and is EPA approved.
The Montpelier Non-Catalytic Medium Wood Insert is a high efficiency, carbon neutral, non-catalytic combustion system that can heat up to 1,500 square feet. This insert comes equipped with a quiet variable-speed fan to help circulate the heat, and removable baffles for easy cleaning. Rated with a 10-hour burn time, this insert can accommodate logs from 18” to 22”. It also features a full refractory lining and has an easy-to-remove baffle for chimney cleaning. The Montpelier also has seven styles of optional surrounds available in a number of different colors.
The Winter Warm Cast Iron Catalytic wood burning insert is available in two sizes. The small size will accept logs up to 18” and the large size will fit logs up to 24” in length. The small unit is rated with a burn time of up to eight hours and will heat an area up to 1,000 square feet, whereas the larger unit has a nine-hour burn time and will heat an area up to 1,500 square feet. Both units come standard with rheostat-controlled twin fans, front-mounted controls, and thermostat. There are optional surrounds and outside air kits also available for these units. Also available in the Winter Warm Fireplace System is an all-in-one package that includes the large insert, zero clearance cabinet, and gravity vent ducts.
Wood Burning Stoves:
One of the largest selections in the Vermont Castings lineup is the extensive array of wood burning stoves. Wood burning stove are available as high efficiency catalytic models or as easier-to-operate, non-catalytic models.
The DutchWest brand of cast iron catalytic wood stove comes in three different sizes. The smallest size accepts logs up to 19”, has a maximum burn time of eight hours, is rated 69.7% efficient, and will heat up to 1,400 square feet. The large model accepts logs up to 22”, has a maximum burn time of nine hours, is rated 75.9% efficient, and will heat up to 1,600 square feet. The extra large stove accepts logs up to 25”, has a maximum burn time of ten hours, is rated 74.3% efficient, and will heat up to 2,400 square feet. All three of these wood burning convection stoves have a traditional Federal look and have the industry's lowest smoke emissions. They feature a convenient side-loading door for easy access, as well as a front door with viewing window, and an easy-to-empty ash pan.
DutchWest also has an large lineup of non-catalytic wood stoves. They offer three sizes of cast iron wood stoves. The small accepts logs up to 19”, with an eight hour burn time. The medium sized stove accepts 22” logs, and has a burn time of up to ten hours. The large model accommodate logs up to 24”, and it has a burn time of up to fourteen hours. They also have an extensive range of plate steel, wood burning stoves. This includes the premium models, available in small, medium, and large, that can heat up to 2,000 square feet and are available with either legs or a pedestal. They also have a line of value steel stoves that also come in small, medium, and large, as well as a model approved for mobile home use.
The Vermont Castings cast iron wood burning stoves are second to none.
Their line of catalytic wood stoves all feature gravity feed wood loading that makes putting in more fuel easier, and all-feature thermostat control. The Defiant is the largest of the three available models. It comes with a firebrick protected back, and features a unique swing-out ash pan for easy cleaning. The Defiant has an efficiency rating of 82.4%, and will take logs up to 24” in length with burn times of up to twelve hours. The mid-size unit is the Encore, which features a unique swing-out ash pan for easy cleaning, along with a polished cooking griddle on top. The Encore has an efficiency rating of 76.7%, and will take logs up to 20” in length with burn times of up to ten hours. The smallest of Vermont Castings' catalytic wood stoves is the Intrepid II. This compact model holds logs up to 16”, with a burn time of up to six hours, and is rated 81.1% efficient.
Vermont Castings' non-catalytic wood stoves are available in four different models. The Defiant NC and the Encore NC are styled in the same fashion as their catalytic namesakes. These two models feature Vermont Castings' EverBurn system that allows for longer burn times and produces fewer emissions, similar to a catalytic system. The Defiant NC will heat up to 2,400 square feet, and accepts 24” logs with a burn time of up to 14 hours. The Encore NC will heat up to 1,900 square feet, and accepts 20” logs with a burn time of up to 10 hours. The other two models, Resolute Acclaim and Aspen, use a more conventional, non-catalytic combustion system. Both models accept logs up to 16” inches in length. The Resolute Acclaim has a rated burn time of up to nine hours, and will heat up to 1,600 square feet. The Aspen will burn up to five hours, and heats a 600 square foott area.
The Vermont Castings catalytic and non-catalytic wood stoves are available in classic black, and many have options for these enamel colors: Bordeaux, biscuit, midnight blue, chestnut brown, ebony black, and Vermont classic green. There is also a range of options like warming shelves, screens, and fan kits available for these stoves.

Coal and Oil Fireplaces and Stoves:
Vermont Castings also produces the Vigilant II coal stove. This low maintenance stove can quickly heat a whole house, and features thermostat control, as well as easy top loading for fuel. This exclusive product is built to the same high standards as all Vermont Castings products.

Warranties:
Most Vermont Castings cast iron parts are covered by a limited three year warranty. Parts such as thermostats, handles, glass door panels, cement, and gasketing are covered by a one year limited warranty. Components of the EverBurn system are covered by a limited lifetime warranty. Catalysts are covered by a limited warranty for six years that operates on a sliding scale. Within the first two years, the catalyst may be replaced for free. From month 25 – 72, a pro-rated credit may be issued against the replacement catalyst, the value of which will drop the closer it gets to month 72.
